This was our first time dining together in Pyrmont, the heart of one of Sydney’s oldest suburbs, so I was particularly excited. The restaurant was a little hard to find as it is nestled at the end of the street, around a corner. We decided to dine outside this time round to enjoy the fine weather and view of the waters of Johnstons Bay.
Complimentary sourdough bread
I love it when the restaurants supply complimentary bread. Especially with butter/olive oil and sea salt. Best!
garlic and rosemary chat potatoes ($10)
As soon as we saw this on the menu, we gasped and ordered it straight away. The best potato side dish we’ve had so far was from Etch Restaurant. Sadly, we haven’t found another restaurant that makes potatoes just as good as Etch.
200g prime beef fillet, olive and sage gnocchi, confit tomatoes, red wine jus ($42)
J was very impressed with the beef fillet here and proclaims that it’s the best beef he’s ever had in his dining experience. That’s a significant comment coming from him!
crispy skin barramundi, water chestnuts, thai basil, coriander, chilli & black bean ($37)
As usual, I ordered seafood. The barramundi was very well cooked, but the skin wasn’t as crispy as I would’ve liked. The sauce was a little Asian influenced as well.
No matter how full we were after the mains, desert was irresistible. As they say, we all have a second stomach for desert!
chocolate gateau, tamarillo salsa, chocolate cherry ice cream ($16)
We both expected this chocolate desert to be very rich and heavy. To our surprise it was very light which was good after a heavy main course.
pear & frangipane tart, praline salted caramel sauce ($16)
A very light desert! Loved it!
