Sofitel Sydney Wentworth Afternoon Tea

A great way to have a girls’ catch up session is over a ribbon of sandwiches, fluffy scones and delicate sweets. Of course, we can’t forget the freshly brewed tea! A few of my girlfriends and I thought we’d check out the high tea at Sofitel Wentworth Hotel in Sydney’s CBD. High tea is served daily from 2 to 5 pm for $49 pp or $59 pp with a glass of champagne.

Like every high tea experience, I really looked forward to this one. However, it was quite disappointing overall. The service delivered was not up to standard. Upon arriving at The Lounge where high tea is served, we were made to wait outside for 5-10 mins before being taken to our tables. Upon settling into our seats, we were not given menus. Rather, the staff verbally ran through a list of the tea selections available and expected us to make our order on the spot. In my opinion, patrons should know what their options are and then given time to consider them before making their decision. Further, the staff were not very attentive when we needed assistance.

Overall, the sweets, scones and sandwiches were delicious apart from the mango mousse which tasted quite artificial. From the sweets selection, my favourite would have to be the lemon slice on top of a layer of crumbed biscuit. From the savoury selection, my favourite would have to be the smoked salmon sandwich. One of the sandwiches contained a spread of what tasted like┬áVegemite. Although I didn’t mind it, some of my friends didn’t enjoy it too much.

Overall the food was alright. However, in terms of the service, I expected much more from a 5 star luxury hotel. Would I come back? Not in a while.
